In Canada, an estimated 2,000,000 people become ill every year due to
foodborne illnesses. This is more commonly known as food poisoning. Many of
these cases are due to eating foods in eating establishments where food has been improperly handled. On Dec.14/1988, Public Eating Establishment Regulations were passed whereby mandatory food sanitation courses are required by law. Due to these regulations, it is required that at least one person per shift has completed a recognized safe food handling course.
This course is intended for owners, managers, supervisors, chefs cooks and all personnel responsible for purchasing, handling, preparing and serving food.
